Arizona Solar Carport Report: 5 Year Performance Review – Backlund CPA Solar Installation

September 2016 will mark the 5 year anniversary of Royal Solar’s covered parking solar installation for Brett V Backlund CPA PC in Gilbert, AZ.

Let’s take a look at the solar system’s production.

The solar carport installation consists of (60) Sharp 235 watt solar panels and (60) Enphase Energy M250 micro inverters.  The resulting system is a 14.10 kWp-DC solar system installed over 6 parking spaces at the firm’s office in Gilbert, Arizona.

The solar system was originally projected to produce 24,000 kWh in Year 1, with 0.5% degradation per year in expected kWh production.

Per the Enphase Energy monitoring system Enlighten, Royal Solar is able to remotely monitor and verify the solar system’s daily, weekly, monthly , and annual production on a per-panel basis.

As of the solar system’s most recent report, lifetime production is reported as 115 MWh compared to the expected 113 MWh (1 MWh = 1,000 kWh).  This translates to 102% actual kWh production vs. expected over the first (nearly) five years of system operation.

Per the below chart, you can see that the system consistently over produces electricity on sunny days throughout the calendar year.  The smooth/unusual sections indicate intermittent internet connectivity where the solar production was back filled once the internet issues were remedied.
